Thin hair is a styling problem before it is anything else. The right cut, the right products, and two minutes of technique can make the hair you have look noticeably fuller. Here is the playbook we use with clients every day.
1. Get the cut right first
No product fixes a cut that works against you. Shorter sides with more length and texture on top almost always reads fuller than long, weighed down hair. Ask your barber for a cut that adds texture through the top, and keep it maintained. Fuller looking hair starts in the chair.
2. Blow dry with root lift
Air drying flattens fine hair against the scalp. Instead, rough dry your hair with a blow dryer while pushing the roots up and back with your fingers. This one habit adds more visible volume than any single product.
3. Build texture with sea salt spray
Spray 4 to 5 bursts of MMIX Sea Salt Spray into damp hair before you blow dry. The natural sea salt and sea kelp extract rough up the strands so they separate and stand fuller, without the gritty finish. This is the foundation layer of a fuller looking style.
4. Thicken with styling powder
Once your hair is fully dry, work a small amount of MMIX Styling Powder through the roots and top. The matte powder makes each strand look thicker and holds the volume you created with the dryer, while feeling like nothing is in your hair.
5. Finish light
If you want definition, finish with a small amount of MMIX Forming Cream. Keep the amount small: heavy product is the enemy of thin hair, because weight is what pulls fine hair flat. Flexible hold, natural shine, and it washes out easily at the end of the day.
What to avoid
- Heavy waxes and pomades. They clump fine strands together, which shows more scalp.
- Overwashing. Stripping your hair daily can leave it limp. Two to four washes a week is plenty for most guys.
- Too much of anything. Thin hair rewards light layers, not one thick coat.
The full system, sea salt spray plus forming cream, is available as the MMIX Ultimate Styling Combo. Barber made, tested on real clients, made in the USA.
